What is Celtic Shamanism

Shamanism is an ancient form of spiritual healing. Some say it is the oldest form of healing on the planet, dating back approximately thirty thousand years. It has been found in many indigenous cultures in North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, Central and Northern Asia, Eastern and Northern Europe and Africa.
The techniques used have withstood the test of time, and are amazingly similar around the world despite geographic, and cultural differences among those practicing this mode of healing.
Some of the techniques include transmuting disease, harmonizing imbalances whether emotional, spiritual or physical; soul connections, re-alignments, retrievals of soul parts; power animal retrieval, where the shaman brings back a spiritual guardian, usually in the form of a power animal to help restore power to an individual.
Many methods are used in shamanic healing, including soul re-connections, removal of intrusive energies, soul remembering, ancestral work, transitioning (assisting as the body and spirit separate in the cross over into the Light) and hands on healing. Shamans work with spiritual allies who are always present in the healing process and continually guide in the healing process. My goal is to remain a clear and open channel from which God’s healing, wisdom, and love flow through me for the healing of others.
A shaman is a healer who moves into an altered state of consciousness to access the hidden reality of the spirit world for the purpose of bringing back healing, power and information. The word shaman translates into meaning: "one who sees in the dark" (the hidden realities), and widely refers to those who are medicine women/men, healers, and seers. Shamans believe that all problems, physical, emotional or mental, have their root cause in spiritual/emotional imbalance. A shaman works to restore balance, and wholeness by addressing the root cause of the problem. Shamanic practices have endured for thousands of years, teaching us that nature can balance, revitalize and shift consciousness; allowing for an opening to the invisible and intrinsic energies that teach that the power is from within us.
Celtic shamanism is an ancient practice that is still used today by modern day shamans. Celtic shamanism is very similar to other forms of shamanism, in that priests/ priestesses, or spiritual counselors act as healers in their communities.
Celtic Shamans are gifted with opening, and maintaining communication with the higher realms and energies of other worlds.
Some of the differences between Celtic shamanism and other forms of shamanism are the uses of the Tree of Life, chants of poems, signs, and symbols that are particular only the Celts.
The Tree of Life plays an important role in Celtic shamanism and indeed, in general Celtic traditions. The Tree of Life is used as a focal point to gain entry to other, spiritual words.
The three primary worlds of spirit are known to be: The Upper World, the Middle World and the Lower World.
The Upper World, is the realm of the sky, stars and heavens.
The Middle world is the one we all live in but it may contain different dimensions that shaman often visit and commune with.
The Underworld, it is not darkness and evil as some might believe, rather the Underworld is a place where ancestors reside and offer their learning and wisdom to the living. The Underworld brings life and healing to shaman who visit this realm.
Celtic circles have always been used to enclose the shaman while they are journeying with one of the three spiritual realms. The circle acts as a sacred area and place of protection and Divine energy for all those inside it. Celtic circles, are in and of themselves highly spiritual, and play an important role to the Celts. Sometimes they are very elaborate, consisting of intricate knot-work and other times they are simple and unadorned. The Western areas of Europe (Britain, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Macedonia) are considered places steeped in Celtic Shamanistic traditions.
