How do we go about creating that beautiful life when there are things that keep us from doing just that? Well, the first thing is that we need to take a look at who we are and all that happens around us…what are the things that can be changed to create a more positive energy that will in turn help to create a more positive and beautiful life. The understanding of “self-care” becomes important in defining how we will feel within the activities and practices that make up “our life” and how successful we will be in our short and long term health and well-being. It is about taking our personal care to a whole new level that for most is not an easy or accepted daily way of being, or practice. For some of us, this new way of thinking and being will seem almost arrogant or even selfish however understanding the value of our own care will become a necessary proactive practise in becoming whole and healthy in every way of our being. Self-Care is truly about living a life-style that is filled with soul nourishing energy. Self-Care is about surrounding oneself with people who are also self-aware and only interested in having and maintaining two-way relationships. It’s about eliminating the things in our life that are not supporting our well-being, that are creating stress for us, so whether we de-clutter our home or work environment, getting our financial state in a place where we are free to have choices, learning to make healthy non guilt or non-obligation commitments and decisions. In addition to all of these good things there needs to be an understanding that pleasure and the presence of pleasure should be and must be a critical marker in understanding the importance of one’s self-care. So whether we are making time to have a weekly massage, or whether we develop a daily practice of making ourselves feel happy and nurtured becomes a way of being that is without guilt and becomes the way of living….our life. Now, I’m sure some of you are thinking; I’m not able to afford a weekly massage. How can I possibly afford this when I have so many other things to worry about that are more important? Time for myself, each and every day…. How will I manage this when I can hardly find the time to get everything done that I struggle with presently? How will I manage all of this when life seems so busy and so chaotic so much of the time, I can’t keep up as it is……? Well, my answer would be one that I use to remind myself every time I feel out of sync with myself and my life … A great life begins with a mind that understands being open and allowing for change. As we begin to make changes and incorporate acts of self-care, it begins to usher in internal changes that begin to make these changes into something that will soon become our permanent life. These changes require work and a dedication to being completely honest with ourselves and the areas that we need to change and grow. Communication becomes a tool that allows us to move forward in this area of growth by always including others with our needs and not expecting that they understand what our needs might be without communicating it to them. Learning to ask for help when help is needed and long before the situation becomes one that overwhelms us. Recognizing and identifying when we are using a Martyr type of behaviour and understanding that this behaviour is not an acceptable way of being. Feeling a sense of frustration becomes the marker that change is needed. Not being the Hero/Martyr….include others in sharing the work load. Understand the value of the word “NO”. Namaste .... Love and Light ~
